Why should I vote early in Chapel Hill / Carrboro?
Why register to vote in Chapel Hill / Orange County?
- It's convenient - no need to request an absentee ballot, no need to drive home to vote, and you can vote on campus during early voting
- It's your right - if you live on or near campus during the school year, you have the right to vote here (even if you are an out-of-state student for tuition purposes)
Why vote EARLY at Morehead?
- Morehead Planetarium will NOT be open on Election Day
- Early Voting is the only way to ensure you can vote on campus. On election day, your polling place varies depending on which dorm you’re in – and many polling places are located off-campus with no easy transportation options.
- Everyone in Orange County (home of Chapel Hill and Carrboro) can early vote at Morehead.
- If there’s a problem with your registration or you are not yet registered to vote, you can register or update your information during early voting. On election day, if there’s a problem with your registration, you may be out of luck.
Am I Eligible?
All UNC-Chapel Hill students, including out-of-students, are eligible to vote here in the North Carolina primary, if they:
- Will have lived in North Carolina and Orange County (including Chapel Hill, Carrboro, etc.) for at least 30 days before the election
- Will be at least 18 years old on or before election day
- Are a U.S. Citizen
- Have not been convicted of a felony without having their rights restored
- Have not and will not participate in any other state or county's general election this year
If you register on-site during early voting, you must show some form of photo ID.
If you live off campus, you must provide proof of address, such as a utility bill with name and local
address, paycheck stub from an employer or a W-2 statement with local
address, or a bank statement or bank-issued credit card statement with
local address.
